National Biodiversity Policy and Strategic Plan of Action (NBPSPA)

It is the country’s national framework for biodiversity conservation and management, developed to guide how Brunei protects, uses, and sustainably manages its biological resources (forests, wildlife, ecosystems).

Key points about NBPSPA:

1. Policy framework for biodiversity aligned with Brunei’s environmental commitments (including the UN Convention on Biological Diversity).

Typically covers:

a. Conservation of ecosystems and species

b. Sustainable use of natural resources

c. Restoration of degraded habitats

d.. Biodiversity mainstreaming into national development

e. Implementation is led mainly by the Forestry Department (under Kementerian Sumber-Sumber Utama dan Pelancongan) with involvement from other agencies, universities, NGOs, and private sector.

2. The current/updated version (often referenced as NBPSPA 2024–2030) is designed to align with global frameworks like the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and Brunei Vision 2035.

In short: NBPSPA is Brunei’s national action plan for protecting and managing biodiversity in a structured, policy-driven way.
