OBJECTIVE:
The Meeting, as the highest decision making body of the cooperation mechanism, was held to oversee all on-going programs and projects of AFoCo as well as approve new projects where Brunei Darussalam is one of the participating countries. The Meeting will also agrees on future arrangements to follow for smooth transition to Asian Forest Cooperation Organization.
The Meeting was attended by the delegates from ASEAN Member Countries and Korea.

BACKGROUND:
The ASEAN-ROK Forest Cooperation (AFoCo) is a regional cooperation mechanism in the forest sector between ASEAN Member States and the Republic of Korea which was initiated as the first step taken following ROK's proposal for the establishment of the Asia Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCo).
It was formalized by the "Agreement between the Governments of the Member States of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the Republic of Korea on Forest Cooperation" which was entered into force on 5 August 2012, and aims to promote rehabilitation of degraded lands, promote sustainable forest management, and combat desertification. It also provides a platform for the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO) to broaden the scope to other Asian countries.
Brunei Darussalam, through the Forestry Department is actively participating in the regional programmes under Capacity Building on Improving Forest Resources Assessment and Enhancing the Involvement of Local Communities to Address the Adverse Impact of Climate Change and Capacity Building for Landscapes Approach to Support the Sustainable Natural Resources Management in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Singapore.
