Japan
proposes biodiversity research tie-up
with Brunei

Japanese
scientists are seeking a research tie-up with
Brunei to develop industrial applications for
biological resources from the sultanate's
rich forest and genetic resources. The Japanese
scientists from the National Institute of
Technology and Evaluation (NITE) led by Mr.
Tetsuaki Nonaka interested to explore the
potential of developing drugs and other
industrial products such as health food and
herbal as well as environmental products using
forest microorganisms and microbes. The proposed
project will be a long term bilateral
arrangement under the Brunei Heart
of Borneo initiative.
